Thoughts on "Downfall"

Thoughts on movie Downfall from last class:
  • seemed to be disconnected from his bunker
  • everything seem to collapse once he was gone because no one seem to know what to do without him...as if he were the brain and the limbs couldn't function without it
  • this is the problem with having a government built on one authority or a dictatorship
  • interesting how the secretary at the end commented on how it she couldn't use being too young as an excuse because you should question why things happen and know what's going on around you no matter how old you are
  • when the child sees the guy shot next to him in the bunker, its as if it that split second he grows up, and war is no longer a make believe game
  • it was interesting to see how those in control freaked out and lost control when he was gone, but the elders/kids were accepting of the defeat and more passive
  • the way the film was shot, the way the camera moved through the corridors and was constantly close up to the characters, made you feel like part of the film
  • the color being in black and white made it seem more historical and capturing a piece of history
