Rebuilding not only a home but a family

What?
I am doing a slideshow of pictures from a camp I have attended for 5 years (and still currently attend). This camp is no ordinary camp. This camp is called Salkehatchie and it involves rebuilding homes in South Carolina for those less fortunate. The one I attend is located in Beaufort, SC. The camp in Beaufort divides ninety people among ten homes (or sites as we call them) that are worked on during the week. I have done anywhere from painting and roofing to laying a new kitchen floor. The slideshow will include pictures of a home before, the process of working on it, and the finished product.

Why?
I am doing this project to get constructions companies such as Home Depot, Lowes, etc to donate supplies to the camp. We are always in need of building supplies and usually spend a lot of our budget on it. It would be great if these major companies could donate or even sponsor the camp.

How?
I am going to put together a picture slideshow using a program on the mac computer in the lab. I will bring in my photos on a cd and upload them. I will either record a voice talking or have music playing. I am still deciding between the two because I want to pick the one that would be the most effective in conveying my message.

Facing Poverty

The article "Changing the Face of Poverty" made me realize all the times we are faced with ads/commercials conveying poverty. The article made me think about how poverty is represented in America. The line that struck me the most is seeing is believing and we have to care about what we see in order to make a difference...hince the vivid pictures of broken homes and starving children. But since we are so used to seeing these ads...has society become numb to poverty? Poverty seems to be such as overwhelming issue whose end seems infinite. As long as there is money there will be poverty.

A question of discussion would be: Can you really change the face of poverty? Does changing the pictures from across the world, to across the country, to across the state, to across the street change the real meaning behind the picture? Does brining the image "closer to home" make you care more?

Under Construction

I am going to do a project using a picture slide show. I'm going to use pictures from a work camp I attend every summer called Salkethatchie. During Salkehatchie I help rebuild houses for those less fortunate in Beaufort, SC. This camp means alot to me and so I am hoping to put together a slideshow of pictures taken from there. I am still not positive on the message I want to convey. Maybe something along the lines of what the camp means to me. I will have either a voice or music playing while the pictures are playing. The one I choose will be based on the meaning I am trying to convey.

Second Life: Part 2

Today in class I updated Autumn Halcali. She is from California and loves to surf, play guitar, go to concerts, travel, and hang out with friends. She has a laidback additude, loves life, and is always trying to meet new people. I chose to dress her in a tiedie tshirt and jeans because it fits her laidback lifestyle.

I also had a chance to leave orientation island and explore the campus of Clemson a little. I look forward to traveling around different countries in second life and checking out some concerts.

Second Life

This is Autumn Halcali. The first name comes from one of my favorite seasons. The last name has the words Cali in it and I recently visited California and thought it was amazing. The clothes come as they are and there isn't too much I can do to them without paying for new ones. These clothes are trendy and fit the character. She has blonde hair because I've always been curious to what it would be like to die my hair blonde but never want to die my hair. They do say that blondes have more fun. :) I made the eye color a aqua blue color because I have blue eyes and think that intense blue eyes are intriguing. Other then that I didn't change too much about the character and still want to play around with it until I have the appearance I'm going for.

Window into the World of Lizzy

If you opened up a MySpace page for my friend Lizzy it would be very bright and inviting. The first thing that would stand out would be the background. It would be a collage she has created herself, filled with pictures and cutouts that describe her. It would be very beachy and creative. The music playing would be a song by Jack Johnson. Other music downloads on the page would be songs from her favorite bands such as Dave Matthews, Sublime, and Hootie and the Blowfish. Her profile name would be DizLiz and underneath would be a picture of her at the beach. The font used on the page would big and bubbly and in the colors of bright blues, greens, and oranges. There would be a slide show of pictures of her and her friends. The slide show would have pictures of of them on random trips they have taken, at the beach, and of them just having fun. There would be a box under the pictures that contains funny quotes, a quote from the Bible and quotes about life, love and friendship. Her profile would not be too personal but would include details such as likes/dislikes, what she loves, the activities she enjoys, what she believes in, and her aspiration of becoming a kindergarten teacher. She would include a link to the webpage of the jet ski rental company where she worked this summer and which her parents own. This webpage would obviously not tell you every detail about my friend Lizzy but it would give you a window into her life as she sees it.
